Owning a Bearded Collie

Bearded Collies are a super breed, very inquisitive and they like to be kept busy doing interesting things all the time, they need someone with them to keep them stimulated and out of trouble. Beardies love the company of their people and are not a breed to be left on their own for long periods as they will become bored and possibly destructive, they like to be with you all the time, mine follow me around the house all the time. This lovely breed is known for being full of life and energy, happy dogs (provided they are looked after properly) requiring plenty of exercise, good training and of course, very regular grooming is needed to keep them knot free, clean and comfortable. This is not a breed where you can come back from a muddy walk and put the kettle on - first the Beardie has to be cleaned up.

Although I love mine to bits I cannot see why anyone would want a Bearded Collie (if they have not had one before) this is a high maintenance breed, lots of exercise as there is with any breed of this size but also at least a regular hour of grooming each week - that's assuming you have trained your beardie to be groomed and that you did it last week too - if not then grooming takes longer or is more expensive at the groomers. They are full of life and need to be taught well from a very early age - sign up for your local training classes or puppy socialisation classes as soon as you have secured a puppy - you may be the clown of the class for a few weeks but it will pay dividends in the long run. And don't forget the extra cleaning from muddy paws, wet dogs, hairy coats that bring lots of rubbish in from the fields with them and a new cleaner might be a good idea too (preferably the kind who comes in and does it for you!!)

Buying a Bearded Collie Puppy

Lots of grooming here for Mum when we get home and we haven't been in the River yet.
